Yeah… this post is a total oxymoron. Modern vintage doesn’t really make sense at all. I know.
Back in the day (circa 3 years ago), when I was completely lost in trying to find “my style”, I always thought there was some decorating rule where I HAD to be able to fit into one single style category. You can either like rustic or modern or industrial or transitional but never ever all of it all at once, right?
But then, why not? It was my house, and if I wanted to incorporate every style on the planet, there was no school-trained interior decorator living in my house to tell me I was breaking some heinous design crime.
And maybe next on the heinous decorating crimes list is loving ceiling fans, but I’m willing to be tarred and feathered for it. (Don’t mess with a Southern girl and her ceiling fan.)
Since we’ve been shopping for the oh-so-perfect modern vintage ceiling fan for our big playroom makeover for the One Room Challenge, I thought it’d be fun to share some of my favorites with y’all. And let me tell ya… these are not your momma’s fans.
Oh, and best of all they’re not a gajillion dollars. I searched around for pretty outside-of-the-box fans that were still as reasonable as I could possibly find.

Are there any that say “playroom” to you? I’ve already got my eye on one in particular. Have you ever struggled with defining your style? Or feeling torn with your love for ceiling fans? Chandeliers have nothing on these babies.
Love them all, but particularly the one with the green! I have ceiling fans in every room, and want one on the porch. I’m from NC, living now in FL. Gotta have my fans. ?
Yes! We went with the green one. 🙂 And I’m so with you. Ceiling fans all the way.
I love the mint colored ceiling fan! It definitely says fun playroom to me.
Same here! That’s the one we ended up getting. 🙂
I love the third one in the top row, and you can’t beat that price! Maybe two of these for a large Play Room. The third fan in the second row is also cutely playful!
I’m liking those too!
Yep, I think the mint one is the prettiest for a playroom. I also love the beige one with the lamp in the centre (third from the bottom) bit perhaps for another room!
Ditto! Loving the mint one!
Where can I find a link to each individual fan—specifically the last one pictured with 12 blades?
Hi Sharon…I just clicked on the fan and it took me straight to the site. 🙂
Joan Young
You can just click the image and it should take you to the shopping link.
I love the Bentley III 22 in. Oscillating Natural Iron Ceiling Fan from Home Depot! Way cool and the price is right!
While fancy lights are beautiful, I’m with you when it comes to my ceiling fans! I live in VA and it’s hot & humid. We have a fan in the great room and every bedroom that run year round.
I like that one too. 🙂
I like the mint one too and the one next to it with the cage around it for a playroom. I also like the pic of the first one along with the caged one I mentioned for myself (I’d love to have that in my living room. Do you know if there’s a place where you can get the light kits without shaving to buy the whole fan?
Can’t wait to see your playroom!!
Candy
Those are my favorite too. 🙂 I’m not sure if you can buy the light kits separately or not. I just saw one I really liked on Shades of Light but it cost way more than I wanted to spend on just a light kit.
I’ve totally felt (and still kinda feel) the defining my style struggle! I will say, it is getting better though. And I’m seeing all the heart eyes for the fan with the minty light!! So retro and perfect for a playroom.
Yay! That’s the one I liked the best too. I struggle with the defining my style thing too sometimes. I think it’s just that styles and trends constantly evolve, it’s good to change with it and try new things. 🙂
The mint ceiling fan says playroom to me. A tough call because they are all appealing! If you had rough housing little boys using that play room, I might go with one of the caged fans to protect flying stuffed animals and other projectiles! : ) It is tough to determine your style. With so many beautiful room designs constantly bombarding us on TV, magazines, and the Internet, it’s tough! It’s easier to eliminate the ones that aren’t “me.” I’ve begun to take your route, Lauren. Blend what you like, it’s your home!
Same here. I kept coming back to the mint one and finally just decided even though it’s funky and very different from anything I would normally pick it’s perfect. We just put it up and it is SO CUTE! Good point about the caged ones too. Thanks, Karen!
The top row right picture reminds of the fans you have in your living room but the second row middle picture reminds me a bit of your master bedroom ceiling fan and light. Just a bit more rustic. Who says things have to matchy-matchy though? It’s a playroom and I think the blue/green one would be fun and tie in with your color scheme too! Can’t wait to see your choice!
I think the same thing. 🙂 We went with the blue/green one and it is SO FUN!
I think that there are two that look like playroom fans.
The mint one looks very playful because of the color. The metal one with three blades (the picture just below the mint fan) looks like an airplane propeller, which is also playful for a playroom!
They are all beautiful!
Those are my two favorites too. 🙂 We ended up going with the mint one and it turned out perfectly!
I agree with the ladies above the mint one is fantastic for a playroom.
That’s the one we picked too. 🙂
Second row, middle black fan…caged in mesh..It’s a great look and you know kids always throw stuff up in the air! lol. My granddaughter (almost 4) just had her big Halloween helium balloon get caught in ours, and it was not a fun experience! The balloon made it OK, but she screamed and cried until it was safely untangled. Save yourself a similar experience.
Ha! Good point. Poor baby! Balloon crises are never fun when you’re a kid.
I love them all!!! I don’t know how you’re going to choose. I think The Trudeau 60 in LED Espresso is my fave. I like that it kind of looks like a windmill!
I love that one too! I don’t know if our room is quite big enough but it. is. awesome.
Ceiling fans!!!! They are less expensive than when you were born!!! I love the look of my fans and wanted to simply (nothing is simple is it) take off the bowl light cover so I can see but I guess they are not the kind I can add this cute cover from Amazon to and make them all old fun. Why??? Why must a light kit be more than a fan?!!! And why didn’t I choose one like in my room where it gives great light and I can easily make that wire tulip cage??!!!
So start with one you like. I’m keeping all of mine that don’t wobble!!!! That was the hard thing of the fans of the 90’s and early 2000’s! And be daring–for me!!!
They definitely are getting more designer-y nowadays. 😉 That is crazy that a light kit costs more than the fan itself though. I found a really amazing light kit that I wanted to put on a cheapo fan a couple of weeks ago but the price was crazy ridiculous too.
The industrial one on the top left I have in my living room. It looks great, Great conversation piece but the light is poor. The light shines directly at floor underneatht. Looks like spotlight.
Thanks, Tammy! Good to know. We’ve decided on the mint one. 😉
