5 Must-Have Blogging eBooks

I interrupt our usual DIY broadcast for a 21st Century Julie Andrews rendition of “My Favorite Things”.

Before I break out into a song and dance about how much I LOVE blogging, can I tell you a secret?

You have a unique voice and an amazing story to tell.

Whether you’ve ever thought about starting a blog or not, just know that you are a beautiful one-of-a-kind human being.

5 Must-Have Ebooks to Become a Career Blogger | blesserhouse.com - How I worked my way into a full-time blogging income in less than 2 years!

Maybe that whole discussion about how we’re all filled with experiences and emotions and stories and inspirations that could rock the world is entirely too long to include in an itty bitty blog post, but it’s true.

Whether you’ve followed this blog of mine for a day, a month, or since the beginning a little over two years ago, you should know that I never ever EVER anticipated that I could make a dime from this blog, much less a living!

That’s not at all to brag, I pinky promise. But what I mean to say to you is a dream doesn’t have to be just a dream. You are capable of so much more than you know.

What started out as a way for my husband and I to document owning and making over our very first house has opened more doors than I could have imagined. Three years ago, we were facing a struggle. Our finances were something we prayed so hard about, and one morning I woke up and a voice in my head said, “Start a blog.” It’s surreal, and I don’t even think I can really explain it except that it was an overwhelming feeling that this was the direction I needed to take.

We’re by no means “rolling in the dough”, but it’s an absolute dream to have a “job” I’m so passionate about (it’s crazy even calling it that) and helps me support our family.

If you’ve ever thought about taking that first leap, you can find my Ultimate Beginner’s Guide to Starting a Blog here.

I know I’m echoing my former English teacher self here, but the best way to forge your path to success is to get educated about the field… and I know that probably sounds a bit scary.

But in the past two years, I’ve done a lot of homework, and I’ve read more resources than I can count about blogging. Honestly, it’s felt like I’m back in college all over again… maybe without the 2 am trips to Taco Bell.

In the end, these 5 ebooks were the winners for packing in a TON of the absolute best information that gave me the resources I needed to turn my hobby blog into a full-fledged career:

Building a Framework: The Ultimate Blogging Handbook by Abby Lawson

(Great for any level blogger.)

If you’re feeling totally lost on where to even begin in starting a blog, this is the best book to have. And, really, even if you’re a seasoned blogger, it has valuable information to build upon what you have already learned.

Time management, product creation, help with social media, the legal side of setting up a small business- it’s all there. And the author, Abby, has written it in a way that just makes you feel like you’re talking with a friend over coffee. The best part is there’s a great bloggers’ support system with a private Facebook group, a printable binder, and a huge list of video tutorials of expert blogger interviews with even more tips.

Affiliate Marketing for Bloggers by Tasha Agruso

(Great for intermediate bloggers with 6 months experience or more.)

Before I read this ebook, I was completely turned off by the idea of affiliate marketing. Seriously, it made me queasy to ever even think about incorporating affiliates into my blog because the idea of earning commission through my writing just made me uneasy.

But Tasha broke down the entire process so well and made me realize that incorporating affiliates into my blog actually helps readers to find what they’re looking for at the same or even cheaper rate than if they’d found it on their own, while also helping to fund my blog. Win/win. My goal in blogging is always to help others, and affiliate marketing does exactly that. If you’re a visual learner, there are video tutorials included too.

Bloggers and Brands by Shannon Acheson

(Great for intermediate bloggers with 6 months experience or more.)

After a year into blogging, I still felt like an ant in the giant world of blogging (okay, you caught me, I still do), but I wanted to take that first step in working with brands I really admired. Bloggers and Brands gave me the courage I needed to approach companies and partner with them. And, to my total jazz-hands-level excitement, so much of Shannon’s advice WORKED time and time again! The printables included helped simplify the whole process too.

The Ultimate Photography Book for Bloggers by Aniko Levai

(Great for any level blogger.)

If you’re ready to get serious about photography and invest in a DSLR camera OR you’re ready to take your photography to the next level, Aniko’s ebook does a beautiful job of breaking down the basics of shooting in manual and capturing stunning food photos and clean, crisp interior shots. The included Lightroom presets and templates alone make this ebook completely worth it.

What the Tech? by Lesley Warren

(Great for any level blogger.)

The most terrifying part of blogging for me was figuring out the technical side of it. I am not at all computer-savvy, and, before reading the book, I wouldn’t touch any sort of code on the backend of my blog for fear of completely breaking my website. Lesley’s ebook simplifies graphic design, coding, hosting, branding, troubleshooting, anything and everything you will need to keep from pulling your hair out when your site goes awry. I am SO thankful for this ebook. I wish it was around when I first started out.

  1. GREAT roundup Lauren! I agree, these are awesome resources and can vouch for a few of them and how much they’ve helped me. I’ll definitely be checking out the others though and fingers crossed for the giveaway, lawd knows I need all the help I can get in the tech arena :/

    1. Right?! I still have a hatred for the tech stuff but at least I feel less defeated now. Haha! It’s good stuff. I promise. Lesley does an amazing job explaining everything.

  2. Ok. Trying this again. We have terrible internet and it comes and goes as it pleases. Was just finishing a long post and it clicked out. So, I just want to say Thank You for today’s post and giveaway. It was an answer to my prayer spoken earlier this AM with my devotional – First 5. Not an answer I was expecting, but I know God is nudging me to take a step into the blogging world despite my excuses and lack of just about everything I think one needs. Love your home and your blog. 🙂

  3. I really do understand wanting to make money from your blog and how affiliate links may help, but (and to me this is a BIG BUT), I can’t tell you how many blogs I have stopped reading and or quit following because of all the “pop ups” within their post. I read on an e-reader and it can just be too much. There has to be a happy medium where you can make money but your readers aren’t frustrated – or it MIGHT mean more readers will quit reading. Something to think about.

    1. Oh no! Are you getting a lot of pop-ups on here, Carol? I’ve been trying to get some issues worked out with my ads that have been on overload lately. I’m with you. Visiting sites with lots of ads frustrates me too.
