There are days I’ll be mindlessly scrolling on Pinterest and come across the most brilliant hack of all time and think, “How did I never think of that?!”
This week, that happened 70 times to be exact. Because that’s exactly how many times I was inspired flipping through the pages of Liz Fourez’s book, A Touch of Farmhouse Charm,Β which just hit bookstores this week.
If you’ve never “met” Liz on her blog Love Grows Wild, go now… fast.
Because if farmhouse style is your jam, you’re probably going to flip as much as I did over the 70 gorgeous tutorials she’s included in her book. All of them can be done in a day, and some take just minutes to do. If you’re a fan of power tools though, she includes plenty for the advanced DIYer too.
And all of them are displayed with great ideas for styling in beautiful photos of her own home, where she lives on a farm in Indiana. Liz’s quiet and sweet personality and her love of family life is reflected in every little detail.
Now that the farmhouse trend has been big for a couple of years now, I thought I’d really seen every idea possible at this point. And since we live in a suburban tract home, we’re usually limited to what we can do with that style.
But every single one of Liz’s ideas can be done in any kind of home and on a budget.
I decided to incorporateΒ one of her brilliant ideas into our powder room by repurposing an antique box grater to make a hand towel rack.
See?! Genius, right?
It took literally 2 minutes, and our powder room, which is still very much on the plain side (except for our chippy HomeGoods mirror) now has an extra punch of character.
I still have dreamsΒ to swap out our basic faucet and add in some board and batten one day, but this one little change with the box grater towel rack already makes it so much better.
I’m already eager to try out a few more of her ideas once we get into the new year like her…
- Windowpane Mirror (p. 32)
- Plate Rack (p. 44)
- Monogrammed Doormat (p. 52)
- Wooden Cake Stand (p. 64)
- Table Leg Candleholder (p. 78)
- Hanging Crate Storage (p. 122)
- Hanging License Plate Gallery Wall (p. 132)
- Dresser Drawer Storage Box (p. 144)
Okay, I need to stop before my list gets too long. All of them look very easy and inexpensive butΒ gorgeous. You know… the best kind of projects.

Looks cute- but all I can think of is how much that would hurt! I’d scrape my hand every time I reached for the towel! ?
I know exactly what you mean…I am so clumsy all I can see is graze knuckles!
This grater is really dull since it’s so old. I rubbed my and on it hand it doesn’t hurt at all. Just nubby. But a brand new one probably would hurt. π
I would love to read that book! Sounds amazing!
SO much good stuff in it!
I saw a great Christmas idea for a grater…..add a floral candle ring around the bottom and put a battery-operated tea light inside! Instant charm!
That’s a great idea! Trying that next!!
Love this idea!! looks great, also love the idea Debbie above says, these together as a combo would be fabulous!!!
Thanks, Pat!
Cute idea, the book looks like it is a lot of fun.
It’s good stuff. π
Oh my goodness, this is soooo cute! I just love it.
Thanks, Chelsea!
How do you get it rustic, just bought grater at garage sale for .25
I am trying to find bathroom paint colors for the half, the guest, and the master and I love yours. What color paint is it?
Hi, Sara! This paint color is Sherwin Williams Sea Salt. One of my favorites for sure. π
Love this!! Also, have you decided where you’re going to put your board and batten in the bathroom?
How did you hang yours? I tried this and it moves around a lot. I canβt figure out the best way to hang it.
I kept it in place with two nails on either furthest side of the grating holes. I hope this helps keep your’s sturdy and in place. π
I NEED that hand towel!! Lol where did ya get it from?
World Market!
