DIYers Delight Giveaway

I get my best thinking done when I’m painting furniture.

It’s true. For most people, it’s when they’re taking a shower or out for a run. (Ha! Me? Run?)  But no, in my head, when I have an old thrifted table in front of me and a well worn paint brush in hand, nothing can stop me. By the time I’m finished, I’ve figured out how to achieve world peace. (Okay, that might be a stretch.)

But it truly is therapy for me. And maybe this sounds silly, but when I take a moment to create, it feels exactly like what I was put on this earth to do. God created the universe and said it was good, so it only makes sense that He put a little ounce of that passion of creating in the rest of us, right?

Anyways, I’m getting ahead of myself…as usual.

Last week, my sweet friend Jen from Girl in the Garage asked me if I would like to give away a furniture makeover prize pack to someone, and it was an immediate no-brainer. You bet your bottom dollar, I would!

Jen just launched a new site called DIY Furniture Makeovers that features all kinds of beautiful furniture makeovers done by bloggers that are absolutely inspiring. (And if you’re a blogger yourself, you can share your own furniture flips over there too.)

These are just a few of my favorites over there:

Ashlea from This Mamas Dance breathed new life into this ratty old chair.

Bre from Brepurposed modernized this thrifted file cabinet with some Aztec style.

Rachel from Shades of Blue Interiors pulled off this GORGEOUS flip on this sofa. You wouldn’t believe how she did it or what it even looked like before!

And Jen herself from Girl in the Garage created this pretty pattern on a dated stenciled dresser by using nailheads.

A few of my own furniture flips are hanging out over there too.

If you have been intimidated to attempt making over furniture before, I’m going to be that girlfriend shoving a paint brush into your hand telling you, “You’ve got this!” It’s so empowering to make something totally and completely yours. Own that creative side even if it’s maybe buried deep deep down under a few layers of self-doubt.

  1. I have a beautiful red velvet Victorian parlor chair that I got from Salvation Army. It even has a cute heart back! The velvet is dated and I’m dying to give it a makeover! I’ve never done anything like this before so I’m scared I’ll ruin it. The wooden frame has scratches all over it so I know a fresh coat of paint would make her shine and even more beautiful!!

    1. Aw cute! You never know until you try. 😉 That’s scary, I know. I still get a little intimidated with every piece I do. Good luck with it!

  2. Same here! It’s a love/hate relationship. Love the creating but ohhhh the messes and “not quite finished” project piles. Haha!

  3. I love all makeovers but especially the ones that work out well!! I am anxious to start working on a large old pie safe (I plan to use in my dining room) that I salvaged out of a house that is going to be torn down soon!! Thanks for the giveaway!! 🙂

  4. I love the projects you have featured here! The projects I like are quick, easy and completed using stuff I have on hand.

  5. I enjoy furniture renovations with paint. It’s the least expensive way to make a big change. Thanks for the giveaway!

    1. My pleasure, Ashlea! You did a beautiful job! I have mad respect for you because I attempted upholstering a chair similar in style to that one and it was not a pretty sight. The padding inside had disintegrated and it was the biggest mess ever!

  6. My favorite DIY is anything I got for free. The dresser in my littlest son’s room was headed to the dump until I got hold of it and made it beautiful!

  7. I love giving furniture a face lift, too. I’ve had one fail so far, I tried to turn an 80’s style night stand into a cat bed, but the cats liked our bed better. After a year of looking at full of dust instead of cat hair, I re-did it with chalk paint and maps for my hubbie’s office…looks nice and the cats STILL aren’t interested!

    1. Haha! That sounds like my dog. She has a dog bed that she hardly goes near and instead takes up 80% of our bed space. And she’s only 10 pounds…how is that even possible? Silly furbabies.

  8. My favorite DIY project in involves fabric and making over something to add a beautiful touch of my style or color. I don’t have power tools yet so I am limited in the furniture redo department.

    1. It’s amazing what fabric and paint can do for a space. If it weren’t for my husband, I’d be lost in the power tool department.

  9. OMG! I love, love love the dresser with the nailheads! I never would’ve thought of that! Love your blog and all the fabulous ideas as well as introducing us to other DIY’ers too!

    1. Isn’t it awesome! I never would have thought of that either. She did an amazing job with that. Thanks so much, Debbie!

  10. I am so excited to get into the giveaway! There are many things on the list that have been on my wish list for some time, and I can’t believe they’re complied in one large giveaway! Fantastic! I am a huge fan, and started making over pieces of my own almost a year ago. It’s an addiction once you get started, and you can’t help but look around and pick out other pieces that need a little TLC. I love following DIY, picking up inspiration, learning how to use paint, fillers, and fabrics correctly. You all are amazing!!

    1. I know exactly what you mean. Definitely an addiction. Thanks so much for entering and for the love! Fingers crossed!

  11. I love painting furniture…it makes for such a huge change, revives a piece that may not look as though it has much life left, and usually leads to more changes in a room. But that’s a good thing…

  12. My favorite project is usually whatever I’m working on at the moment 🙂 which happens to be updating my kitchen cabinets right now!

  13. My favorite diy project has also got to be a good furniture makeover…they are so quick & change the look of a room so much! Thanks for the giveaway! 🙂
