As I promised last week, I figured I would give you guys a little pick-me-up to get your Monday started right. During the “blizzard” that hit us a few weeks ago as I lived the temporary life of a shut-in, I was browsing around Etsy for some craft ideas when I stumbled upon this adorable little rustic shop.
Megan Bark, owner of Habitat Handcrafted in Story City, Iowa, founded her shop out of a desire to share the beauty of the land where she grew up on her parents’ farm. The idea to make candle holders out of downed or dying trees originated on that farm while she was hiking with her husband, who is a talented woodworker. Habitat Handcrafted is truly a family-centered company and together, with her husband and mother, Megan learned new skills along the way. The family has crafted the wood pieces and textile line for their Etsy store. Their second curtain line is also currently in the works.
“It was my desire to create a line of home goods that embraced natural, sustainably-harvested wood and combine that with a streamlined, modern aesthetic. We do a lot of editing to make sure that each piece we sell fits into our ‘modern rustic home’ mission. Custom orders are a huge part of our business and we love working directly with our clients. I feel incredibly blessed to be doing what I love and what I’ve dreamed of in this growing business.” -Megan Bark, Habitat Handcrafted owner
