A while ago when I asked you guys for a little blog feedback, a lot of y’all apparently wanted to see more personal posts. I’m usually so wrapped up in DIY Land that I forget to really show you guys our little clan. And since I’m ready to collapse after the four hour drive home and working away on the piles of laundry from unpacking, it seemed like the perfect time to do it.
Every year since I was just 6 weeks old, I’ve taken a trip to North Myrtle Beach with my parents and grandparents. It’s one of my favorite places in the world, and since Robert and I got married and Olivia came along, it’s gotten even better.
Just after Robert and I got engaged four years ago, my grandfather passed away. This place is always where he seemed the happiest, and walking on the beach always makes me think of him.
My grandmother’s condo is close to a row of huge beach houses where it’s always quiet. That little strip of coastline is practically all ours. (That’s Olivia and Robert in the distance down there below.)
Right after we arrived Sunday, we headed straight to our favorite seafood restaurant.
Olivia just figured out how to hold up the number “2” with her fingers, so she had to “peace up” the camera every chance she got. We stuffed our faces with all the crab legs we could handle at Captain George’s. It’s so good!
I mentioned last week that I’ve made it my goal to photograph her in a white dress on the beach every summer. This time around, the wind was really strong and my camera lens fogged up from high humidity. So it was a super short session. I ended up having to use Robert’s cell phone camera.
Her expression is so hard to read. I don’t think she likes the ocean very much, do you? 😉
We played mini golf twice too. There are so many of these places all over Myrtle. Robert and my dad are tough to beat.
Olivia has a bond with my dad that is unlike any other. She was completely hooked on mini golf thanks to him.
Just so you know…my mom is my twin. And I scored the most points at mini golf! So I won, right? (Wink wink.)
These two absolutely melt my heart. They’re best buddies. Olivia told me so herself.
By the end of the week, we were addicted to seashell hunting in the tidal pools. (Since I was a bit leery of the ocean with reports of shark attacks in the past several days, we didn’t wade in deeper than our knees.)
We found these guys after about 30 minutes and found lots more the next day. I already have a plan for them in our house somewhere.
My mom, grandmother, and I got to have a girls’ day shopping and flea marketing too, but more on that later.
I hope y’all had a beautiful week last week too! Have any of you ever visited beaches in the Carolinas? Do you have a favorite vacation spot? We’re ready to try a new one soon!
