About Lauren and Robert
How It All Started
It all started with a thrift store chair I decided to spray paint one fateful afternoon in 2013… and it went terribly, terribly wrong.
But I didn’t let it defeat me. I refused to let that $5 wooden desk chair win. I was a stay-at-home mom looking for a creative outlet while my 1 year-old daughter napped, and with a lot (a LOT) of patience, that much needed creative outlet I shared with random strangers on the internet blossomed into so much more.
8 years, now blogging about decorating and DIY with my husband full time, many magazine features, brand ambassadorships, and still plenty of mistakes later… here we are.
Where We Are Now
We’re Robert and Lauren, a DIY-loving duo living in the suburbs of Charlotte, NC with our two little girls just fighting the good fight in making our house a home one renovation and thrifted decorating adventure at a time.
What We Believe
We believe the journey of turning a house into a home is half the fun. We’re so glad to have you here, and we hope you feel inspired to love the home you have.
When we bought our first house in 2013, which we could barely afford at the time, I had hardly ever picked up a paint brush. Robert had little to no experience with power tools.
But we had an excitement to learn, and I’ll let you in on a little secret… that’s really all you need to start.
What Home Taught Us
We basically learned how to paint everything. I discovered all the thrifting tricks and how to find deals on Facebook Marketplace to fill our empty rooms when we couldn’t afford to otherwise.
Robert persisted at power tools until he became a millworking Jedi master to add character to our home. and a DIY home improvement guru to increase our home’s value. I made huge messes before learning how to paint furniture the right way.
What We Share With Our Readers
I cracked the best method for choosing the perfect paint color every time. I discovered the magic of finding free art all over the internet!
And through all of these years, we have shared our journey here on this blog with DIY project tutorials, home decor ideas, and simplified interior design advice so that you can feel empowered in your own home.
Our Style Philosophy
We believe home is the reflection of those who live within it, so our home is very much a blend of old meets new. Our style viewpoint is to make classic design choices in order to work smarter not harder (and also because classic is simply beautiful).
It’s important to us that interior design can withstand the test of time with hints of modern trends blended in.
Our 1960 colonial house has seen so much more than we’ll ever know, and we love being a chapter of its story. When we walk into a room, we want to feel some of that history is still preserved in a room’s design. It’s our way of celebrating both the present and the past.
Our Accolades
Over the past 8 years, our projects, designs, and photography have been featured in print publications of Better Homes & Gardens, Good Housekeeping, Country Living Magazine, This Old House, The Cottage Journal, and Country Sampler.
We have been named Better Homes & Gardens Stylemakers 3 years running, and we have a Bless’er House Paint Color Collection with Romabio Paints.
As DIY and decorating experts, our work has been featured in countless home design articles by Martha Stewart, Apartment Therapy, Pioneer Woman, The Cottage Journal, House Beautiful, Elle Decor, The Spruce, BuzzFeed, PopSugar, Today, and many more.
