A little girl bedroom gets a big girl update using a few boho furniture swaps, DIY geology art, and glam accents.
Don’t blink. That’s basically the gist of this room refresh. Because I SWEAR just yesterday Olivia was 4 years old and we were just moving into this house.
And then a second later, she was this little inquisitive 5 year-old all about butterflies and ballet and meeting her new baby sister who was on the way. (So we gave her that first room makeover in honor of all of that.)
And two more seconds later, she’s now 8 and all about collecting rocks and seashells, fashion, tumbling, and playing violin. I keep telling this girl to stop growing so fast, but she won’t listen. 😉
A few weeks ago, she asked for a ceiling fan (and honestly I can’t blame her because I can’t sleep without a fan either). Then, the ceiling fan turned into needing a non-canopy style bed. Then, before we knew it, we had a whole room refresh on our hands.
She was definitely due for a “big girl” bedroom that would reflect her always growing personality. Once Robert and I found the cutest rattan headboard in a little shop in the NC mountains over winter break, we just ran with it.
And I updated this dresser we’d had for a couple of years by simply swapping out the knobs.
Olivia loves collecting all kinds of things she finds on the beach or in the woods. So we displayed her seashells we found at the beach together last summer in a hurricane lantern.
And I made a geology chart in a shadow box by hot gluing some rocks from her collection alongside labels I wrote. We went gem mining in Chimney Rock, NC around New Years, so it’s a sweet family memory on display that she can always remember.
We found these larger amethyst pieces while we were gem mining too, so I placed them around her room as accent pieces and bookends.
This bedroom definitely feels more her speed now. And we didn’t have to paint a wall or get messy to update it for her age.
I posted her reaction to seeing it on Instagram. As soon as she saw it she asked, “Can I sleep in here?!” I think she was completely shocked. Haha!

Later this year, we’ll most likely be doing another little girl room refresh since Regan will soon be outgrowing her crib. I don’t think my heart can take it! How does this happen so fast?!
