The Backyard Party Guest Station Setup I Swear By
I used to spend every backyard party doing the same thing on repeat:
running inside to grab sunscreen… handing out towels… digging through drawers for Band-Aids… refilling drinks… answering “Hey, do you have…?” about 47 times.
Not exactly the relaxing host vibe we’re going for, right?
So this year, I tried something different for backyard party guest hosting season, and I don’t think I’ll ever go back. I cut out the middleman (me).

Outdoor Storage Cabinet | Pool Towels | Window Box Planter
I just pushed two deck boxes together on our pool deck to create a makeshift outdoor sideboard and turned it into a self-serve guest station.
And y’all… it’s genius in the simplest way.
Why a Backyard Party Guest Station Changes Everything
Instead of being the on-call concierge for every little need, now:
- Guests can grab what they need without asking
- Everything is easy for visitors to find to reduce their stress
- I actually get to sit down, eat, and enjoy the party
It’s one of those function-first ideas that ends up making your backyard party feel more elevated too.
And if you know me, you know that’s my favorite combo:
Pretty and practical. (As Paul Hollywood would say, “Style and substance.”)

The Setup: Turning Deck Boxes into a Backyard Hosting Station
If you have room, place 2 deck boxes side-by-side to create a longer surface. Style the top like a buffet or console table. And use the inside storage space to stash all of your guest essentials.
If you want to make it feel a little extra special, you can:
- Add a tray or basket to corral items
- Use a small lamp or lantern for evening parties
- Toss in a few faux stems or a potted plant
- Hang a cute little sign like “Help Yourself”
It instantly looks intentional, but secretly, it’s doing all the heavy lifting for you.
I love that the doors on my deck boxes lock with the twist of knob. I’ve kept these towels outside in these boxes for a month, and they’ve stayed completely dry, dust/pollen/bug-free! They even still smell freshly laundered, which I was not expecting at all.

- Budget-friendly
- Easy to set up
