Spring Living Room Tour

I was planning to make this post super catchy and helpful like…

10 Ways to Bring Spring Into Your Home

5 Ways to Make Your Living Room Look Effortless With Florals

But… my brain is half asleep from all of the work we’ve done in Olivia’s room lately and preparing for a yard sale. I rattled around in this noggin of mine and all I got was, “Hey, look! I decorated for spring even though spring is halfway over.” Ha!

But it does the soul so much good to dust the tabletops and sweep the floors and set out a couple of vases of grocery store flowers.

It’s not just cleaning and decorating. It’s refreshing your mood, brightening your perspective, wrapping a new season in a big ol’ bear hug and saying, “This spring is going to be great.”

That’s always time well spent in my PB&J spreading, LEGO stepping, glitter slime mixing world. Even if the peace and pretty lasts only a day.

Lola has the right idea on the couch there.

Most of the time, this tray on our DIY ottoman is a toy catcher and remote control corraler…

Most of the time, that antique book has doubled as a coaster for a sippy cup of chocolate milk…

Most of the time, this sofa has more piles of folded laundry on it than it does throw pillows…

And there are days I wish for it all to go away… but only for a second. Because when all of the laundry and sippy cups and scattered toys go away, I know I’ll wish for it… this season.

Even though I’ve been in “spring cleaning mode” these last few weeks while the sun gets warmer outside, I still have to remind myself to be thankful for the messes.

So Robert, Olivia, and I are going to sprawl out for family movie nights in this living room and build blanket forts and have dance recitals on the rug. Because what good is a living room without the living part?

I’ll enjoy the tidy and pretty today, but I’ll embrace this crazy, chaotic little family life always.

Side note real quick though… can you believe how much this room has changed?

Here’s the before:

It wasn’t “ugly” by any means before at all, but this space definitely feels like a reflection of us now.

I realized I never really did a “room reveal” post for this one, so I rounded up everything below, if you’ve ever wanted to know.

  1. I stumbled on your blog for your paint colour post and absolutely LOVE what you’ve done! You’ve inspired me to paint the doors dark in our new home as well as narrow down our colour scheme. I’m wondering… do you have a tutorial on painting windows black?

  2. Your living room is so beautiful, light and airy looking. I would like to make over my living room, too. I need new furniture and drapes. My living room is very small *11.5′ x 17″. I always wanted a mirror over my sofa, but I don’t know what size mirror to have – a long one, or two or three small ones. I will have a recliner next to the sofa and I am afraid a really big mirror may “take over the room”. I could never hope to have a room as beautiful as yours – just trying to make the best of what I have. I have to get just the right mirror, too, because they are too expensive to make mistakes on.

  3. WOW, ALL SET FOR SPRING. I LOVE THIS INNOVATIVE IDEA. yOUR LIVING ROOM IS LOOKING VERY INVITING ANYONE WOULD LOVE TO SPEND SOME THIM IN A GREAT PLACE LIKE THIS. KEEP POSTING SUCH THINGS.

  4. Would you mind giving me more details on the curtains- how did you hang them? I have an incredibly similar looking room that needs some tweaking. I’m going to try to paint the doors like you have. I’ve always struggled with how to drape my doors – I have a half moon window directly about the double door set. Would love your opinion!

    1. The curtains are hung just underneath the molding. They are more for texture than functionality. The rods do not allow the curtains to move past the ‘between space’ of the doors. It is a great way to fill space and bring a room together when you have so many doors and not so much wall space.

  5. Hi Lauren,
Which color did you get in the chairs? It comes in a gray-beige and a blue. Yours look like a light blue in the photos, but the blue on Ikea’s website looks more like a navy.
    Thanks!

  6. Hi there, I absolutely adore all of your home furnishings and decorations. I noticed that the rug in one of your shots of your home tour looks different then in this post, did you change it? Which is the current rug you have ? I followed the link to the rug on Amazon but I didn’t want to purchase that particular one of you did not like it for some reason and changed it. Wanted to make sure I get good quality LOL thank you for your answer.

  7. Hi there! Weird question, but I love your shoes in the photo by your front door. Where are they from? Thank you!

  8. Beautiful home…. Question about sofa….does the bench seat sit well as for comfort? Does it get lumpy looking? Just curious Love your black windows!

  9. Love love love the ceiling fan….can you supply the brand? We are finally getting to redo our home after Hurricane Harvey and this weekend is tax free weekend on ceiling fans!!! Woo Whoo!

  10. I have just discovered your blog. I love your home and ideas and the way you are honest about real life with a family!

  11. Your space looks awesome (and so does your new branding on your blog!). And don’t worry about Spring, it’s not over yet. In fact, it has barely started at my house and there’s still snow to come tomorrow! Have a great day!

  12. Congratulations on the beautiful transformation! Thanks for keeping it real. We see all these pretty photos of well decorated homes on Pinterest and Instagram and we feel bad because our homes aren’t as perfect. Thanks for the reminder that, truth be told, those homes aren’t perfect either, and that’s ok! There’s a difference between a house and a home. I thank God for every princess sticker I’ve ever had to scrape off a piece of furniture. Blessings to you and your family!

  13. You truly are the sweetest Lauren. So talented, and so unaffected, down to earth, generous with your talents and ideas. I love each and every one of your posts—- and your home!♥️?

  14. “Most of the time, this sofa has more piles of folded laundry on it than it does throw pillows…”

If your laundry is actually folded, you’re still several steps ahead of me! 🙂

  15. So, So, Pretty! Please do enjoy your little one. Mine are 19 and 21. Yes, it is better to have a mess than no one living in your clean living room.

    1. No green undertone that I’ve noticed, but lighting always plays a factor. I’ve found ours to be a creamy white.

  16. So pretty! I know you have done a review on your Ikea sofa and chairs before, but do you mind commenting on how they are still holding up? I’m this close to purchasing them.

    1. I still like them! We’ll probably spring for new slipcovers soon from Comfort Works or Bemz since IKEA doesn’t have a big selection, but so far, they’re still holding up great.
