A round-up of taupe and gray trim paint inspirations for a modern-meets-classic look and the best paint colors to pull it off.

Our sad, beige, spackle-marked guest bedroom has finally been getting a paint job as of late. After rolling some white paint on the walls, it’s already looking 1000% percent better.

But our next step in the paint plan is something I’ve been wanting to do for a while… gray trim!!!

If you haven’t noticed this trend floating around on the scene lately, allow me to introduce you to this gorgeousness. Even though it’s sort of the latest “what’s in” with interior design, it’s also a classic that can look stunning in all kinds of styles.

So I thought I’d share a few of my favorite gray / taupe trim inspiration photos along with some of the best paint colors to pull it off.

After filling up my guest bedroom Pinterest board with a bajillion gray trim pins, I dove deep into all of them for hours to research all of the best, most recommended gray and taupe paint colors to pull off the look.

(And I found a winner for our space that I can’t wait to show y’all later this week!)

    1. Hi! If you click the โ€œsourceโ€ under the picture you can find the place to locate the details to each picture. I wish I could help. That grey is beautiful.

  1. My ceilings are going to be painted as well as the walls. Iโ€™m going with sw pure white for walls. Should I use same for ceilings or should I go with a brighter white? For my doors and trim Iโ€™m leaning towards more of a beige tan griege, any color suggestions? Thank you

    1. It’s up to you but generally I like to use the same for both if you’re using a bright white. Pure White works well for ceilings. For a beige tan greige shade, Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter is a good one to try. Just be sure to sample first.

    1. You are not missing it. Each photo shared has a source tag if you want the specific details to each room. And then at the bottom of the post I have brand and color dots to โ€œlistโ€ the popular ones.

  2. I have been looking for a way to make our house stylish but not fussy and your pictures have convinced me that grey trim is it! Iโ€™ve fallen in love with Little Greene (UK brand because thatโ€™s where I am) French Grey.

But, Iโ€™d love your advice on wall colours. Obviously white, but there are so many whites to choose from! Iโ€™m torn between Little Greene Shirting, which I think is a true white but without optical brighteners; and Little Greene Slaked Lime which is an off white in the same direction as the French Grey. Should I be brave enough to go all the way with white, or stick to an off white to avoid a stark looking room?

Currently we are doing the hallway, living room and adjoining dining room in all the same scheme, with the same mid-brown wooden floors. If it works well I think weโ€™ll do the grey trim/white wall throughout the house and accent each room in different coloured accessories.

Iโ€™d love to hear your thoughts!

    1. Hi Sam! Yay! I’m glad it helped! If you want a warm-ish white that isn’t too stark, I’d go with Benjamin Moore White Dove or Simply White. Test them as samples first because lighting always changes the look of paint and every room is different.

  3. Hi! Thank you for sharing your paint color examples. It has saved me so much time navigating through all of the options out there. I recently got a sample of Benjamin Moore’s Swiss Coffee and love it! I will be doing a custom gray color for the trim and crown molding in my house. My question to you is did you use Swiss Coffee on the ceiling or did you opt for a bright white?

    1. Hi, Melissa! Great question. We painted the ceilings and trim using Benjamin Moore Aura paint in Simply White to instantly brighten things up.
