A tropical boho back porch decorated for summer with breezy, functional style and string lights for evening ambience. #backporch #summerdecor
This post is sponsored by Flower Home by Drew Barrymore for Walmart.
It’s officially summer at our house this week! The girls’ last day of school is Friday, the pool makeover is getting wrapped up today, and we’ll be celebrating this weekend with a big cookout to kick off the season right.
If y’all need me, my butt will be planted on this back porch from now until fall… seriously. You’ll have to peel me off of this spot in September.
If you’ve been visiting here for a while, you might remember this loveliness before we painted the ceiling, installed new ceiling fans, limewashed the brick, hung up cheapo mosquito net curtains, and cleaned up some of our old furniture we brought with us from the last house.
We spend so much time out here in the warm months that it is absolutely worth it to decorate every year and swap out a few items from the year before that get beaten up by the elements.
So I snagged a few things from Drew Barrymore’s Flower Home line at Walmart because it all screams tropical boho pool party to me. I feel like I can’t get away with the boho look inside of our house since it’s much more traditional within our walls.
But out here, I love that I can give it more of a global bungalow vibe for not a whole lotta moolah. You can see the full Flower Home collection here.
My black-thumbed self might be crazy for attempting this, but I picked up this live palm plant for $20 the other day. He was so adorable that I had to have him. (Yes, it’s a him. Haha!) He’s going to need all of the help he can get with me as his plant mama.
I don’t trust myself to repot it, so I just stuck it in this cute brass wire basket and called it done.
Our throw pillows usually get the most abuse, so I swapped out the pollen covered ones from last year with this fringed one and put this pom pom throw blanket with it to cozy up in the cooler evenings.
I’ve been tempted to hang art on our brick for awhile and discovered brick hooks that prevent damage so that I could mount these botanical prints.
They’re SO cute!!! And they match my free printable summer botanicals just inside our back door. 😉
I thought these floral pillows were a fun punch of color too.
We usually sprawl out around this dining table to chow down for cookouts, and I work here sipping my coffee on pretty mornings for some peace and quiet.
The only thing I can keep alive in our yard is hydrangeas, so I always have vases full of them in the summer.
Bonus points: They’re no brainers to arrange! Woot! Stick ’em in and done.
And I plan to put some citronella pillar candles in these glass votive lanterns to help keep the bugs away since they’re definitely out in full force now.
It’s absolutely my favorite “room” in the house, if it counts as a room.
If you want to know about any of the decor, furniture, and paint colors in this space, you can find it all here:
- Ceiling color – Benjamin Moore Palladian Blue
- Short vase
- Tall vase
- Jade hurricane lanterns
- Botanical print set
- Floral throw pillows
- Fringe throw pillow
- Brass wire basket set
- Pom pom throw blanket
- Lounge chairs (similar – ours are 4 years old and discontinued)
- Round outdoor rug (similar)
- Ceiling fans
I cannot WAIT for all of the cozy evenings we’ll have out here in the months ahead.
Happy summer, y’all! Peace, love, and flip flops forever.
What hooks did you use to hang the botanical prints?
Love your posts so much!
Hi, Megan. Here are the hooks for you. https://rstyle.me/n/dkza64b5ky7 🙂
Do you mind if I come and hang out on your porch for awhile?
Porches & outdoor living spaces sell houses & yours is a great example of that! That porch is beautiful! Curious if you hope to ever screen that in to eliminate bugs for good. Either way, I can see why you love that space so much. Love the idea of art work outside, but sorry, my symmetrical side isn’t crazy about the frames too big for the wall…i’d have to cut them to fit! ha. They still add a nice touch though. Happy summer and enjoy your “new” pool! Oh, and don’t be afraid of that palm. Just line that basket with some moss, throw in some potting mix and he’ll be happy. Palms are fuss free – all they need is space to dance!

Oh my goodness!! That is HEAVENLY!! I would no doubt be the same….you gotta pull me out of there come winter. Talk about a peaceful sanctuary where you can just hang out, read, watch the kids play in the pool, visit and entertain. LOVE it. Now, if I could only have a house with a back porch like that. LOL Thank you for all your great home decorating tips, I look forward to your emails!
I would like to know where to find the two tables that you have on rug as coffee tables. I love them.
I got them at TJ Maxx about 3 years ago and haven’t had any luck finding ones just like them, unfortunately. They’re garden stools. I love how versatile they are. They double as some basic overflow seating too in case anyone ever wants to “pop a squat” on them.
I’ve always loved the BOHO style even though my house is vintage farmhouse style. Interesting to see that you picked a different style for the outside. Now I’m inspired. Thank you and enjoy time with your family out there!….oh! and thanks for the links!
You scored on that $20 palm! it’s huge! And your outdoor room is lovely and inviting. The older chairs look great with a new application of teak oil, makes them look brand new! Thanks for the inspiration!
Beautiful porch!! Where did you find the rug under your dining table? I’ve been looking for one like that for my porch! 🙂
Thank you, Amanda! The rug is from Target, https://rstyle.me/n/c5yhy3b5ky7. 🙂
What a beautiful backyard oasis!! Love everything you did to pull it together to create such a peaceful place to hang out. Enjoy.
Enjoy reading blogs. Sorry if you mentioned it somewhere in the article, but I couldn’t find the info about the table runner. Where did you get it?
Thank you!
Hi! Here is the table runner. https://rstyle.me/n/c4pekrb5ky7
Cozy & adorable!!!
Thank you! 🙂
Beautiful space! Forgive me if I overlooked it, but where did you find that table runner? Is it also from the Flower collection?
Hi. Here is the table runner https://rstyle.me/n/c4pekrb5ky7
Just BEAUTIFUL and so COZY. Where did you find the garden stools??
Hi, Beverly! Here are the stools. 🙂 https://rstyle.me/n/c52vdvb5ky7
I would like to know where you found your outdoor table. It is the prefect size and I like the wood look as opposed to the metal. Thanks and hope you have a great Memorial Day weekend.
Forgot to ask about the chairs with the table and the rug beneath it. Thanks again
This is beautiful, Lauren! I especially love those pillows and your drapes! I can totally imagine spending time out here. What a relaxing, inviting space. Have an amazing summer, and thanks for your helpful advice!
Love everything about this! Where are your outdoor curtains from?
Hi, Alex. They are from IKEA!! 🙂 https://rstyle.me/n/c7abxvb5ky7
Hi Lauren – I’m curious if you actually pulled the drapes closed at night to keep the mosquitos out and if they worked? I saw your post earlier about getting them at IKEA and saved it for when my patio was finished. Thanks you!!
Hi Cheryl! Yes, we’ve pulled them closed a few times on super “buggy” nights, and they’ve worked great at keeping them out.
Just wondering the dimensions of your porch? We are building, and I am hoping for a similar layout! Thank you!!
Hi Telia! The dimensions are 18’x12′
Love everything about it it’s perfect! Can I ask what kind of flooring u have. TIA stunning
What flooring do you mean in particular? On our deck? Or somewhere inside?
Hi… on the back porch. It looks beautiful and was wondering it it was wood. Ty
It’s just pressure treated wood. 🙂 The floor was like this when we moved in, so unfortunately I don’t know all of the details about it.
How is the dining set holding up? I am interested in purchasing, but often IKEA is hit or miss. Are you finding the dining set holds well to everyday use and outdoor weather?
It’s actually held up great! You’re right a lot of Ikea is hit and miss, but so far this is a hit! We’ve had some huge storms and it’s been hanging strong 🙂
