8 Reasons Why You Need a Pedestal Bowl in Your Home Decor Stash

This post is sponsored by Wayfair.

The older I get the less stuff I want to own. Is that a normal response to approaching 40? I’m guessing so.

Rewind 10 years ago, and you’d meet a Lauren who was constantly redecorating her whole house for every season. But now? I like to live by a “decorate smarter not harder” mantra.

8 ways to use pedestal bowls in every room

The more stuff you have, the more time, money, and storage is required to manage it all. Who honestly has an abundance of time, money, and storage these days? Not me, at least.

I’ve figured out that the secret to all of that is flexibility, using decor pieces that can serve you in many rooms with many functions in many seasons.

One of the unsung heroes that checks all of those boxes? Pedestal bowls. (Or footed bowls, compote bowls, whatever you want to call them.)

I found the perfect pedestal bowls at Wayfair to show you all of the many different ways you can use them. For years, I’ve sprinkled them in every single room of our home because they’re not only pretty, but they make our home more organized and functional every single day.

1. Remote Control Holder

We always have some kind of footed bowl on our coffee table in the living room for the specific purpose of keeping the remote control. Otherwise, it’s usually a manhunt for the remote between the couch cushions without it.

2. Key Bowl

Every entryway should have a “drop zone”. (Our command center wall is our family’s main hub and drop zone spot.)

What do you do when you first walk through the door when you get home? You probably dump your keys and wallet on a table. Having this handled footed bowl there as a catch-all spot just makes sense and keeps the room from looking cluttered.

3. Fruit Bowl

We’ve had a ceramic pedestal bowl on our kitchen countertop for years to serve as a fruit bowl. We keep it in the very middle of our countertop to encourage our family to snack on fruit. It actually works!

When the fruit is hidden in a corner, it often goes to waste. But when the bowl is in plain sight, our family remembers to reach for it. Plus, it serves as timeless kitchen decor without any effort. Win/win.

4. Table Centerpiece

I LOVE throwing together an arrangement of flowers in this gold compote bowl. It instantly feels elegant even if I have no clue what I’m doing with zero florist training. (All I can say is the secret to making a compote bowl flower arrangement is florist foam.)

Gold Compote Bowl

At Christmas, instead of flowers, I fill it with a few evergreen stems and some ornament balls. It’s the easiest holiday centerpiece to throw together last minute.

5. Pocket Change Holder

The first thing that always ends up on our bedroom dresser is pocket change. I started keeping this small gold pedestal bowl there and it has made all the difference to reduce clutter.

We fill that little bowl up with more than just coins depending on what random things we’ve been carrying around in our pockets all day, but it catches everything for us.

6. Planter Bowl

You don’t always need a designated planter pot. Use a footed bowl as a planter instead and it makes the perfect centerpiece to use anywhere.

We put this one as a little pop of greenery on this thrifted stool to add interest in our plain and simple hallway. It’s still a work in progress in that space, but a plant makes all the difference while it’s in the in-between phase.

7. Candy Dish

We love to include lots of amenities in the guest bedroom so our guests feel right at home. Including a compote bowl candy dish filled with chocolates on the nightstand is one of them. It’s a small gesture, but it goes a long way. And it still serves as a decorative detail.

8. Toiletry Holder

If it’s in sight on a table or countertop 24/7, it should be pleasing to the eye. That’s my philosophy anyway.

So I love using containers in our bathrooms to dress up toiletries on the countertop. This woven pedestal bowl serves as a pretty way to keep washcloths handy.

  1. Love this post and love footed bowls! Pretty sure I’ve seen tutorials for making them by gluing together a bowl and an upside down smaller bowl, cup, glass, or even a chunky candlestick, great thrifty project! Your post reminded me that my grandma had a big collection of keys in a fancy glass trifle dish on her buffet. She was a hearty farm wife and while she was a great cook, I doubt she ever made a trifle in her life and probably got it as a wedding or anniversary gift. The takeaway is to use the pretty things, even if for a different purpose!
