Homework Desk in Olivia’s Room & Back-to-School

A quick homework desk change-up with drawers and memo board to stay organized + back-to-school ideas.

It’s the end of an era in Olivia’s room (or the beginning of a new one… glass half full over here) because with our oldest girl turning 8 soon and starting off second grade, it was time…

…to say goodbye to the DIY ballet barre we installed in her room when she was 5.

DIY Ballet Barre

I’m not crying; you’re crying!

She has long since ripped that ballet barre right off of the wall thanks to a stellar gymnastics move and the wall of mirrors was really not serving a great purpose.

With the back-to-school situation being so up in the air and Zoom meetings in our future, it seemed like the perfect time to swap the mirrors with a much-needed homework desk. (She’s extra excited about the fact that it doubles as a makeup vanity… oh. my. gosh. Pump the brakes, child.)

I repurposed some picture frames I already had, spray painted the chair, and added this white & gold desk and linen memo board to help her stay organized.

A couple of weeks ago, we celebrated back-to-school with some new super cute, low-priced clothes from Walmart. We picked out what she liked online and just had it all shipped to us without having to visit the store.

Even though this year is much more challenging than ever before, these kiddos need our positivity and excitement. Optimism will carry them so much further than anything else.

I rounded up a bunch of my (and her) faves:

  1. Awl at the bottom of this post was a slew of related posts I might enjoy and it shows when she was little and you put up the barre – my how she has grown into quite the young lady sitting at her super cool grown up girl desk!

Changes are inevitable, but man they sure happen fast with wee ones.

Love your seasonal decor mantra. I am slowly letting that happen too.

Helps with Covid and me staying out of the stores and controlling my impulse buying. Fall is my very favorite time of year to decorate. I still have LOTS of bins, but I am getting better each year.

    Stay well, Lauren.

  2. Olivia is just precious. A true mix of her parents. You can’t beat Walmart for just about anything. It is always my first go-to. I hope she has a wonderful school year working at her new desk.
