Craigslist Regrets + Kids’ Decor from Walmart
Why a secondhand dresser is not always the best solution + top picks from the Flower Kids home decor line from Walmart.
There are times when I will travel all over town on a Saturday for a good yard sale. I break for curbside furniture. And yeah, my neighborhood thrift store workers know me on a first-name basis.
But this $60 dresser we picked up on Craigslist for Olivia’s bedroom makeover last year has been proof to me that secondhand isn’t always the best decision.
It was really cute on the outside after I painted it, buuuuuut the drawers were all kinds of busted with no way to fix them like I’d previously thought when I bought the thing.
And bless Olivia’s heart, she always had to fight those drawers with her little bit of 6 year-old strength to open them.
Cheap, secondhand furniture is great only if it functions well.
So we threw in the towel on the old one, and picked up this whimsical dresser from the new Flower Kids line at Walmart for a much better functioning replacement.
I wanted to make that old dresser work. I really did.
But I gotta say, I’m not that mad about it now that this happy little piece has made it easier for Olivia to access the drawers.
For now, we just use the drawers to store her books as I’m currently in declutter mode and preparing to sell Olivia’s and Regan’s old, too-small clothes to a local kids’ consignment sale.
(If you follow me on Instagram, you can join in on a decluttering challenge with me as I work through our entire house! Or get decluttering tips here, if back-to-school time gets you in the mood.)
So once I finish the declutter/sell/buy consigned kids’ clothing extravaganza around here, I’ll be going into full-on organization mode. It’s a process, and it’s probably super nerdy to admit, but I’m so excited to start minimizing the clutter and getting some order for our essentials around here, starting with the kids’ dressers and closets.
If I could design kids’ spaces exclusively for a living, I totally would because every time I do, it feels so freeing to go wild with colors and patterns and create designs that inspire my little ones to explore. So I love that the Flower Kids line at Walmart reflects all of that.
So I rounded up a few of my favorite items from Flower Kids, if you happen to be refreshing any spaces for your little ones right now too.
Next time you see this room, I reeeeaaaaally hope to have more of my organization game going strong because you do NOT want to see the closet behind me. Oh yeah, and maybe actual clothes in these dresser drawers too. Haha!
Welcome to our home. Our children live here and it only looks like we have our act together, ‘kay? Don’t open any closet doors and pretend you don’t see the dust bunnies.
