“Do what scares you.” That’s definitely our motto for the master bedroom refresh that currently has us pouring over all of the paint color options.

But for some reason, I keep coming back to the idea of painting the entire room all black. (The Lauren from 5 years ago who painted everything beige or white wouldn’t even recognize me now.)

And then it dawned on me… black is PERFECT for a bedroom! Especially if you have insomnia or get reverse circadian rhythms like I do sometimes. (Any other night owls out there who get their best thinking done after everybody else is asleep?)

Mix in the black with some rich leather, a punch of greenery, and balance it out with some white and a room feels instantly high-end.

Are you convinced yet? I think painting our interior doors black was just our gateway to this because now I can’t get enough!

I don’t think I’ll be painting any other rooms black, honestly, but I can already tell our bedroom will feel so much more luxurious with just the black paint color change alone.

It’s a color that will never go out of style, that’s for sure.

  3. It is a great look, and dark bedrooms do help you sleep better. I can vouch, as a night shift worker for 25 years, having a dark, cocoon-like room was heavenly to fall into after a 12 hour shift in the NICU. But I retired this year and was so happy to paint over my dark gray paint. Your post with this great pictures has made me miss the elegance of a dark colored room. your focus wall looks amazing and I cant wait to see it all painted. Btw, I bought your velvet curtains in off white for our bedroom and love them! What a great buy! Nicely made and feel so luxurious!

      1. I absolutely LOVE black! Painted my former dining room black (white trim older home). It was beautiful and elegant! Moved 5 years ago and can’t find the paint sample. Which brand paint and name is your black paint? After using eggshell for years, I now like to use a satin finish on all my walls except semi gloss in baths/kitchens. Your posts with paint suggestions are wonderful and I have generally used one of your suggestions from a specific color palette. Thank you.
