“Do what scares you.” That’s definitely our motto for the master bedroom refresh that currently has us pouring over all of the paint color options.

But for some reason, I keep coming back to the idea of painting the entire room all black. (The Lauren from 5 years ago who painted everything beige or white wouldn’t even recognize me now.)

And then it dawned on me… black is PERFECT for a bedroom! Especially if you have insomnia or get reverse circadian rhythms like I do sometimes. (Any other night owls out there who get their best thinking done after everybody else is asleep?)

Mix in the black with some rich leather, a punch of greenery, and balance it out with some white and a room feels instantly high-end.

Are you convinced yet? I think painting our interior doors black was just our gateway to this because now I can’t get enough!

I don’t think I’ll be painting any other rooms black, honestly, but I can already tell our bedroom will feel so much more luxurious with just the black paint color change alone.

It’s a color that will never go out of style, that’s for sure.

  2. I love black and have strong black, statement pieces in every room of my home. If my home wasn’t so small, I too would have a black wall in it. I find that black is very grounding and ties things together.Go for it Lauren, can’t wait to see the finished bedroom.

  3. I think you may find yourself very pleasantly surprised how much you love it. I highly recommend using a non-glossy paint tho on the black – maybe just an accent wall to start to see how you feel about it?

    Going to be amazing.

  4. I think it is very GLAM but I once painted a room very dark (almost black ) Navy blue . I found it showed the dust terribly especially on the mouldings and after one year it had to go .

  5. Beautiful examples. 😉 Very high end indeed. I’m thinking that proper lighting is essential. I’d love to try a graphite / deep brown mix accent wall. sounds luxurious, and relaxing. I can’t wait to see your project pics !
