New Light and Furniture in the Playroom

Y’all, we’re SO close to calling this playroom finished! If you followed my Instagram Stories yesterday, you might have seen a few places still in the works in here. (Or you can catch it on my highlights reel on my IG feed profile.)

But first here’s the obligatory trip down memory lane…

The before:

After paint and the IKEA built-in project:

And now (which technically is still an “in progress” photo but it’s lookin’ quite a lot like an “after”):

Let me tell ya, those baskets with their easy-to-read labels for Olivia have been LIFE-GIVING! I legitimately walk into this room and breathe easier. All week long, Olivia has been putting away all of her toys and she’s actually excited she can read all of the little labels and knows where everything goes.

Who is this kid???

The other day, we added to the oh-so-beautiful orderly basket system with this light I picked up at IKEA for $60. I love how it ties in the woody tones of the baskets and bookcase top but it’s still youthful and fun.

Right around New Year’s I found this play table at Land of Nod marked down at 50% off too, and I jumped at the chance. They only had a dark brown table in stock, but it was nothing a little white spray paint couldn’t fix. So in the end, I saved $125 on it.

The best part is it has changeable legs so it can keep growing with Olivia. I got a paper roll holder to attach to it too so she can color to her heart’s content (which she does pretty much every single day).

I got the chairs on sale at Target at New Year’s too (holiday sales are my jam). They’re metal and super sturdy to last us a long time.

A few weeks ago, I found this old sugar mold in an antique store to fill up with markers and colored pencils.

And I finally hung up the DIY storybook art we made for the playroom in the old house.

So now, we have just a few picky things to deal with on the other walls in this playroom. This weekend, I’m hoping that orange brick will get a limewash. Any volunteers? Bueller? ๐Ÿ˜‰

  1. Dear Lauren,

I love everything about your suggestions. Our house is a cape style house so two bedrooms upstairs and we have a small kitchen, full bath, long living room and separate dining down stairs. We also have a 1 and 2 year old and we work from home some days. The play room is currently on the back end of the living room and we have a desk in pretty much every room of the house. I cannot figure out how to make our home work for our family although I know we have enough space. I wish we could hire you to help us!

    1. Hi Jeannine! They’re from The Container Store. I linked them above in the post. ๐Ÿ™‚ No idea why IKEA doesn’t carry baskets that actually fit those bookcases! They’re missing out!
