UPDATE: See the full master bedroom makeover reveal + source list here!

A couple weeks ago, I asked you guys for help in choosing from a list of my favorite budget-friendly blue vintage rugs.

It was major debating in my brain, y’all. Why is choosing a rug so ding dang hard?

In the end, this one was the popular choice (and the one I found myself hoping everyone else would pick).

I got it from Rugs USA, and it’s called the Vintage Castle Medallion Rug if you ever go on the hunt for it yourself.

In the beginning of our master bedroom’s design plan, I had my sights set on a hand tufted wool rug, but as we neared the end of this room makeover, I knew I needed to squeeze in one that was more reasonable on the  ol’ budget.

I’m SO happy with how soft and comfy this one is though, and actually, I think it’s even softer than many wool ones I’ve walked on. It’s on the thin side, but since our bedroom has carpet anyway, that wasn’t an issue for us.

I’ve gone back and forth for awhile about our headboard upholstery, and now that the rug is in here, I think I’ve landed on my decision with it.

I’m kind of not feeling the brown fabric, but now the question is am I going to take the risk at destroying our headboard to go all DIY-crazy on it? Hmm… Seriously, that’s not a “hmm” for dramatic effect. I’m honestly kind of stumped. Do I dare? (I probably already asked that question before. Oops.)

After we rolled out the rug, we realized the ticking stripe duvet cover just wasn’t working either. Major pattern competition going on. So I ended up changing it for a simple white duvet cover instead.

Oh, in case you were wondering, Lola is absolutely wild with excitement over the new floor decor. She’s jumping all over the place and dancing around. I can’t even get her to sit still anymore. πŸ˜‰

Okay, well, she’s stoked about this rug in her mind. She told me herself.

Don’t you just see that furry face of hers saying, “When is my human going to put down the camera already?” (Please tell me you talk for your pets too. They’re just hairy people really.)

So now the final item on the list (besides that headboard that keeps me guessing) is our sliding barn doors. A couple things for that project had to be backordered, so it’s taking a bit longer than planned… wouldn’t be a room makeover without a hiccup, right?

Can you envision it though? How awesome will sliding doors look on that wall? I know I’ll be glad when the day comes that our shower door doesn’t slam into our bathroom door anymore. Every. single. morning.

Update!  You can check out more about all of the projects and makeovers that went into our master bedroom here:

Are you liking the rug we picked? It’s darker and has more of a pattern than I originally planned, but I’m pleasantly surprised how it’s turned out. This room has turned out less rustic and more modern than I anticipated actually. What do you think of the progress so far? We’re SO CLOSE!

  1. Looks fabulous so far. I would definitely paint the fabric on the headboard if you change it. Although I think it looks great the way it is. Can’t wait to see your doors in the room!

    1. Thanks, Jessica! That was a happy little surprise. Oh, and that cute pup basically runs this place. πŸ˜‰ Totally rotten.

  2. I LOVE the rug!! When we move later in the year, I holding out enough for a nice rug like that!! (clor me a little green).
Have you thought of changing the color of the fabric on your headboard by painting it??
As long as u use textile medium it will stay soft

    1. Thanks, Marianna! I think paint is actually the route I’m going to take with it. I don’t trust my abilities to wrestle with fabric. Thanks for the tip on the textile medium!

    1. Thanks! I think curiosity is going to get the best of me for how it would turn out as gray. I’m itching to change it.

    1. I didn’t use a rug pad. If I were putting this rug on tile or hardwood though, I definitely would. It is on the thin side. But since our bedroom is carpet, I didn’t feel the need to.

  3. Love the new rug and how much it enhanced the master bedroom…great choice! I still think the headboard looks great against the light wall and the light bedding…. Happy Monday!

  4. Beautiful rug!! Awesome price! And adorable dog!!! Love all the design choices you’ve made. I like the bed the way it is but if you do decide to change it up… I’m sure it will be beautiful and the change will be fabulous.

    1. Thanks, DeAnna! It’s been a lot of fun pulling everything together in here. We’ll see how it turns out…depends on how brave I’m feeling. πŸ˜‰

    1. Thanks! It is VERY silky soft. Soooo comfy. I like you’re thinkin’, Samantha. The little voice in my head still says that headboard needs a mini-makeover. πŸ˜‰

  5. I’ve seen posts on painting fabric with chalk paint. Don’t know how they would feel to touch, but it would be easier than reupholstering. If you do decide to reupholster, Miss Mustard Seed has a great tutorial on tufting. Good luck with your decision-making

    1. Me too, Kathy! I’ve been looking into the paint option and I think that’s what I’m going to try. Much much easier.

  6. I love the rug, Lauren. I think you might have been onto something a few weeks ago when you mentioned lightening the wood on the bed…my eye keeps wanting that change.

    1. Thanks, Lisa! I’m thinking I can maybe get by with doing something to the fabric. Part of me wants to lighten the wood but since the wood is in beautiful condition, I might be too scared to.

  7. Think your rug choice is wonderful and so is the simple duvet, but I would leave the headboard as is. The color looks great and works with the room – it especially ties in with the tones in the woven shades. Save yourself the aggravation – the room is beautiful!

  8. Love the rug. Where did you get the slim night stands? Just moved into an old home and need skinny night stands. Yours might be perfect.

    1. We got them at Nadeau Furniture. LOVE that store! Their prices are pretty good too. You can see if one of their stores are near you. Their site is http://www.furniturewithasoul.com A lot of their items are one-of-a-kind though. I think our nightstands might be the only ones, but I’m not positive.

  9. The rug is gorgeous! I looked at all of the choices on Amazon and couldn’t pick just one. I’m still thinking of ordering one for my living room even though the color may not work, they’re so pretty I want to at least try one out!
I wouldn’t change the headboard if I were you, the color is so rich and positively scrumptious!
I enjoy your blog so much and look forward to seeing and reading more. Thank you for sharing your lovely home.

    1. Thank you so much, Polly! That means a lot to me. I know exactly what you mean. It was so hard deciding on this one rug. Hope you find a winner!

  10. I would not change the headboard! I like the contrast of colors against the pillows and wall. Leave it and live with it.

  11. Love the rug and totally agree on the headboard. I’d hate to mess with it too, but a linen would look so awesome with the rig and the dark bed. So I say go for it since I’m not the one that has to do it, haha!

    1. Hahaha! Ahhh! But I’m skeered! If this goes bad, I’m going to say it’s because of Janice’s bad influence. Totally kidding. πŸ˜‰
