Best Bar Stools for a Kitchen Island from Amazon

A round up of the best low budget modern traditional bar stools from Amazon to use around a kitchen island or peninsula.

Whatever it is about bar stools, they are insanely difficult to shop for. Or maybe I’m just more picky than what’s considered normal. (Very likely. 😆)

A couple of years ago, during our kitchen refresh, I snagged some cheap bar stools as a place holder to simply serve a purpose for our family until I could find the perfect ones.

They had to look like designer bar stools, be kid-friendly, durable, easy to clean, high quality, and couldn’t cost more than $100 each.

Favorite Adjustable Bar Stools

I saw these beautiful adjustable height swivel gold pub stools from Amazon shared by Chris Loves Julia, and that was it for me.

But 11 other bar stools from Amazon made my Top 12 bar stool favorites list. So I’m rounding them all up at the bottom of this blog post if you’re on the hunt too.

What Kind of Stool is Best for a Kitchen Island?

The kitchen island nowadays is not just a place for cooking; it’s a multifunctional feature that always seems to be the congregation spot when hosting gatherings.

If you have a kitchen island, I’m sure you already know the importance of having comfortable and stylish seating options.

High Back vs Backless

When comfort is a priority, a high-backed bar stool is the best option but it is bulkier and takes up more space. When saving space is a priority, go for backless.

Counter Height vs Bar Height

Bar height stools have seat heights approximately 28 inches high (or 28 – 32 inches as a rule) to fit under table tops with a standard height of 40 to 42 inches. Counter stools have seat heights of 24 to 27 inches high for tables that are 36 inches high.

  1. I love your new kitchen! Great job!! The white metal barstool with the wood top or either of the 2 blue ones are my favorites for your kitchen. The blue ones would add a little color. I know you love to be thrifty so I know price will play a part in the decision also. Thanks for letting me offer my 2 cents 🙂

By the way, I love the way you redid your $5 kitchen scale. Bravo!!

    1. Thank you for your input, Bonnie! That really helps. I’m leaning toward the white metal barstools too since they’d kind of marry the rustic wood of the bar with the white cabinets. You can’t really see in this pic, but our kitchen table has aqua chairs right next to our bar and I love the little punch of color it brings in here too.

  2. While we haven’t remodeled our kitchen ( I would like to down the road) we are looking for barstools for the counter to finish off our own farmhouse look. My husband just finished building us a new table for the eat in kitchen all that’s left is to stain it and buy chairs.
Since you’re looking for barstools and we’ve had some in the past and I wish I had some now, I’ll tell you that you I think barstools with a back are the way to go. Our last stools were backless and after awhile my back would get really sore from not having the support. And, I’ve got a 3 year old little one who likes to be in the kitchen watching me cook, but I fear he’ll fall off a stool with no back. Down the road, I see my kids doing school work at the kitchen counter and I know they too will want the support of a chair with a back.
That’s what we’re looking for anyways. We actually are going to go to Ikea tomorrow to look at chairs. They have these beautiful white ones for the dining room with a crisscross back and matching barstools and I think the room will just pop with the white! Good luck shopping!

    1. That sounds really pretty, Chels! I spend way too much money every time I visit IKEA. Maybe I’ll just get all the stools and call it a day. 😉

  3. Ooooh, so many nice barstools, its a difficult choice. Looking at (or rather staring at pictures for ages) of your kitchen, I feel that stools that are mostly black will tie in with your cabinet hardware, your new swish tap and light fixtures. The black stools you have pictured however, don’t have the right color wood seats to work with the grays in your room, but then I thought, this is magical Lauren and super Handyman hubs that I’m “talking” to, they could easily fix that.!! Your choice in the end will be perfect 🙂

    1. One swipe of the paint brush with some stain, it’d be good as fixed. 😉 Haha! Thanks, Min! You’re always so sweet to give me your feedback.

  4. Love all your choices! I am considering getting a island with seating also, with that said….I am leaning towards
a stool with a back. Thinking it would be more comfortable ??? Like you, I’m on the hunt for the best deals ! ???

    1. Thank, Edie! I’m wishing for stools with a back too. We have a bit of a tight squeeze between our kitchen table and our bar, so I’m trying to figure out if it’ll work. And yes! Always on the deal hunt!
