Our Favorite Minimalist Baby Gear and Vintage Toys
A round-up shopping guide of the most highly rated streamlined modern baby gear and vintage-inspired STEAM toys to inspire sensory development.
How in the world did we blink and our baby is already just weeks shy of a year old?! There’s no way that’s possible!
The other day, I had to fight back the tears as I hauled off a bunch of baby gear to a consignment sale that she’s already grown out of. (Decluttering for the win!) But then I remembered the toddler phase is right around the corner, and that got me excited all over again.
It made me remember though that I often get messages from some of y’all asking me about our baby gear recs.
And in the past, when I’ve shared our playroom makeovers (both from this house and from the old place), some of you have mentioned wanting sources about all of the “old school” toys our kids use.
So I thought it’d be a great idea to compile all of our favorite “stylish” baby gear items and vintage inspired toys all in one post that are not only pretty but are the most highly reviewed.
I personally love baby gear that is neutral and streamlined since it’s stuff we usually have to look at every day and helps decrease the feeling of a chaotic, sensory-overload sort of atmosphere in our home.
After sharing my PPD story last week, that probably explains why I appreciate the minimalist designed baby items so much.
And when it comes to toys, while our kids do have plenty of the flashing-light, bright plastic toys too, the favorites and most long-lasting always seem to be the “old school” STEAM type wooden toys that require extra imagination for a boost in cognitive/sensory development.
Would you like to save this?
Plus, they’re pretty, make for more durable heirlooms, are more eco-friendly, and reduce anxiety. (You can see more of the research basis for wooden toys here. Lookie there! My education degree is still hidden somewhere in this brain of mine. Haha! Who’d a thunk?)
By the way, can we just talk about how tiny Olivia looks in this picture below playing with blocks at our old house versus the lemonade stand pic above from this summer? Ugh! Time, slow down!
