The Most Recommended Blue Grey Paint Colors

A round up of the 9 best blue grey paint colors recommended by designers with ideas for the best rooms in the house to use them.

We just finished painting the playroom with the sweetest blue grey paint color and I can already envision this precious space coming together for the girls!

This is the final color of the Bless’er House Paint Color Collection with Romabio that we named Carolina Sky after our favorite place in the world famous for its soft blue.

We live right on the North Carolina / South Carolina border, so this color always reminds us of home. (It would work perfectly as a “haint blue” porch ceiling too.)

This blue grey paint is juuuuust vibrant enough without being overwhelming and creates a feeling of calm (which a playroom definitely needs sometimes amidst the toy chaos.)

Where to Use Blue Grey Paint Colors

Because blue grey colors are so soothing and relaxing, they’re a popular choice for bedrooms and bathrooms. Although they can work for many design aesthetics, they are especially well suited for coastal style interiors.

But they can work well in any space and for any style where you want a whisper of color.

How to Find the Best Blue Grey Paint Color for Your Room

Blue grey paint colors are so challenging to get just right, and I highly recommend testing samples using this paint color selecting method as different lighting in every room can change how colors are perceived.

Decide before choosing your paint color whether you want a blue with gray undertones or a gray with blue undertones.

What might look gray on the paint color swatch can look bright baby boy nursery blue on the wall, so it’s important to paint a few samples on a white poster board and place in the room you plan to paint to look at the colors in different lighting throughout the day to decide which works best.

What colors go well with blue gray?

Colors that work well with blue gray are clean whites, creams, earthy greens, greiges, mustard yellows, and warm browns. It’s best to incorporate blue gray with a few accents of warmer tones to prevent a room from feeling sterile and uninviting. Adding warm brown furniture or cream textiles alongside blue gray paint can help a space feel balanced.

What does blue gray mean in color psychology?

In color psychology, gray represents balance and blue represents serenity. It’s often associated with peace and stability, which is why it’s such a popular choice in rooms meant for rest and rejuvenation like bedrooms or bathrooms (even spas).

  1. Hi Lauren,
My daughter wanted to paint her bottom kitchen cabinets in Farrow & Ball’s Oval Room Blue after seeing the color on your site. Unfortunately, Farrow and Ball is not available in our area. I have also read that it is very hard to computer match F & B because they use a lot of pigment and very seldom do you get a close match. Is this true? Have you had any luck matching F & B using other paint companies?
    Thanks so much,
    Leslie

    1. I have not tried to match any colors from other companies. I have used Sherwin Williams to make a color to match a shelf. and they worked magic!! It was identical. However. I looked up your original color of choice and IT iS BEAUTIFUL. I hope she finds the perfect color and paint for her kitchen.
