Our 4 Year House Anniversary Tour

To appreciate where you are, look back at how far you’ve come. I totally 100% believe that in this house, as a person, in marriage, as a parent, in life…

It’s why every year in April since we moved into this house in 2017 that I share a before and progress home tour. (Because let’s be honest, is there ever really truly an “after”? Our homes are constantly changing just like we are, and they’re never really finished. The journey never ends, and that’s worth celebrating.)

4 years ago, Robert and I (and Olivia who was 4 years-old at the time) bought this house feeling so excited but completely overwhelmed. After living in a new builder grade cookie cutter house, being relatively new to DIY projects, and having only ever encountered just the quick, cosmetic fixes, the idea of moving into a 60 year-old house was daunting to say the least.

Since then, we’ve replaced HVAC, a caved-in sewage line, a rusty water heater, I mean… totally fun stuff, right? Have you been there?

We’ve learned a lot of hard lessons, made a lot of messes, had another sweet little baby girl along the way, and we are so thankful for all of it and for all of YOU being here throughout each chapter. We’re nowhere close to being finished either.

Here’s how far we’ve come and what it looks like now…

We still have so many more adventures ahead, and we cannot wait to see what this house looks like at the 5 year mark.

This summer, we hope to add an outdoor kitchen, pool cabana, stamp the concrete, replace the fence, overhaul the inside of the shed for a workshop, renovate the garage, and refresh Regan’s nursery with a “big girl bed” (cue the tears) along with continuing to do makeovers for friends and family. And maybe one of these days, we’ll be able to finally renovate our kitchen and master bathroom.

But home wasn’t built in a day. Sometimes the best part of the journey is in the messy process… or at least in the anticipation to finally see the vision come together. Our homes deserve to be loved throughout every before, in progress, and after shot.

When we were barely able to pay for groceries in our first apartment as newlyweds and later living in my parents’ spare bedroom with a baby for a few years, I never would have imagined we would end up here.

It’s taken so much hard work and there have been times I thought, “What on earth have we gotten ourselves into?” But God has proven to us time and time again that He has a plan for us. And this blog was without a doubt His plan all along.

We are so thankful for you being here and for your encouraging comments and messages along the way. I hope we help all of you in some way in return. Because you make it possible.

  1. You have don’t such a great job with this house. I love it. Have to have my BlesserHouse fix every.single.day!!

  2. Everything you two have accomplished is beautiful, inviting, practical, and inspiring. You both have enough energy for four people! You did not stop with your own home, as you have continued to bless others with your savvy design inspiration by giving make-overs to those you truly love! Thank you for sharing with others what has worked for you and your family. Also, the “Pro’s and Con’s” of RUGGABLES were most helpful and appreciated.

  3. You have done an amazing job on updating this home! There is only 1 room that I’m not fond of but the rest of the home is fabulous! I’ve followed you I think since the beginning and this home has come a long way! I truly love the outside brick, it just updates the whole house to this era! Happy Home a-versary!!!

  4. It’s absolutely stunning! Matt and I are restoring our farmhouse top to bottom and I’m exhausted (yet inspired!) looking at everything you’ve done in just four years. I love every room you’ve redone!
